Changmal Dates

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 bread baguette, cubed            
  • 15 large dates
  • 40 oz butter unsalted   
  • AN coconut powder
  • AN cumin
  • 6 full walnuts, chopped
DIRECTIONS

STEP 1

Melt butter in a pan. Chop up dates and add to pan, heat up for 3 minutes. Add bread cubes and mix for 5 minutes. Add more butter if bread hasn’t absorbed any butter. Add walnuts and cumin and mix for 5 more minutes.

STEP 2

Remove pan from heat and let cool to handle. Use your hands and kneed the mix to make a uniform mix. Make ping pong ball size balls and add coconut powder over top. Serve warm or cold.

STORY

This is a Iranian dessert originated from Central and Southern Iran where date Palms are planted. It is called “Changmal” in Farsi.
