California Institute for Women Colony Mental Health Crisis Facility
CALIFORNIA INSTITUTION FOR WOMEN 45-BED ACUTE CARE FACILITY
This new 2-story, OSHPD compliant, 45-bed acute intermediate care mental health facility at California Institution for Women provides separate nursing units utilizing a centralized nursing station between two housing wings totaling 24 acute patient rooms and 21 IC beds, including one accessible room in each wing.
Design also incorporated patient service areas including dining, group rooms, and IDT conference rooms, all centrally located to provide access from both housing units and a 9,545 SF, 2-story facility housing administrative offices and conference spaces. Key design features include a vacuum plumbing system for a significant water and wastewater use reduction, efficient rooftop packaged DX air conditioning units with gas furnace and an insulated heavy mass wall construction kept energy use low.
