Sutter Medical Center Of Sacramento

Capital provided mechanical engineering services for the extensive consolidation and renovation of the existing Sutter Medical Center Campus located in downtown Sacramento.

Key project elements include 18 new surgery suites, additional parking and medical office and outpatient space, a new lab, a new Women’s and Children’s Hospital, the replacement and expansion of the existing energy center, and new pre and post-operative suites.

Capital utilized LEAN tools with an IPD contract extensively, including collaborating with owners, contractors and shareholders, integrated BIM throughout the project. Capital was also contracted to provide mechanical engineering services for the new, underground replacement central plant for the medical center, which includes 5,000 tons of chiller capacity, two large-scale cooling tower installations on the roof of the new ambulatory services building above the new plant, and a 500 HP dual-fuel steam boiler.

The central plant was constructed in a complex, multi-phased procedure to maintain existing services online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Also included is a new emergency power plant. The campus central plant serves the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital, the existing renovated Sutter General Hospital, and two other Medical Office Buildings located on adjacent blocks in downtown Sacramento.
