American River College Allied Health Center
Located on the American River College Campus, the Allied Health Center is a new facility for the college’s health education program. Replacing the program’s aging portable buildings, the project created a group of permanent structures organized in a village-like setting along a centrally landscaped courtyard.
The project contains faculty and student services offices, classrooms and laboratory spaces, including computer-aided pneumatic patient simulators in a full-scale hospital floor mock-up lab. The varied building orientations accommodate natural daylighting and existing campus circulation patterns. The village concept allows for a diversity of spaces and individual program identity among the larger campus. The new buildings accent the main campus’ architectural vocabulary through similar building materials while articulating smaller scale and variation of windows, roof forms, and colors. The formal sequence of arrival from main campus is a meandering path through existing canopied trees and contoured landscaping.
