Bayer CropScience R&D Center, Greenhouse and Pilot Plant
Capital is providing CALGreen commissioning services for the new Bayer CropScience research and development center in West Sacramento. This existing facility was modified to fulfill new load and application needs. The building offers 40,000 SF of research and development space, 30,000 SF of clean-room space, 30,000 SF of office and 40,000 SF of warehouse space.
This first phase of construction consists of the renovation of 80,000 SF of lab and office space. The lab HVAC systems have been reprogrammed and repurposed whereas the office areas remain relatively untouched.
The R&D Center Biologics/Vegetable Seeds project consists of the renovation of 26,000 SF of existing lab space to accommodate new offices and agricultural research labs. The commissioning scope for this project will be confined to the scope of work shown in the BVS reference documents. A new $12,000,000 greenhouse complex will be built on the campus as well. The Pilot Plant consists of a 13,000 SF renovation of existing warehouse and manufacturing space into a fermentation pilot plant. HVAC Scope includes the re-use of three recirculating air handlers, one make up air unit, a fan coil and exhaust fan and the purchase of one new dust collector. New terminal boxes serve five hard balanced zones. A new high pressure steam boiler and CDA compressor and dryer will be installed.
A new DCS system will control all pilot plant functions and the existing BAS will be extended to control all building-wide mechanical systems being added. A new electrical distribution including UPS will be added from the existing main panel. Fire alarm will be extended from the existing spaces.
