Chabot College Performing Arts Center
The renovation of Chabot College’s Music Skills Center and Little Theater was designed under Chabot-Las Positas Community College District’s stringent sustainability guidelines, targeting LEED Silver.
The Music Skills Center and Little Theater was configured to provide appropriate spaces for the Music Technology Department, Music Department, and the Theatre Arts Department. Mechanical design incorporated roof-mounted VAV air handling units with chilled and hot water coils, individual supply and return fan sections, and LEED-certified filtering systems. An air distribution system including variable air volume boxes with hot water reheat meets the cooling and heating needs of the new architectural floor plan.
A new chilled and hot water piping system from the air handling units and reheat coils connects to the existing hydronic piping loop from the campus’s central plant. The new piping connects to the existing piping stubs located in the vault outside the building. All new air handling units located on the roof are supported by a spring isolated curb system.
Sound isolation components are furnished within the duct system at locations where ductwork penetrates sound-sensitive membranes. A District approved energy management system is interfaced with the current campus control system. The IDF/Communication Room has a dedicated split system air conditioning unit.
