Robert T. Matsui Federal Courthouse is a 345 foot tall high rise, with 16 above grade floors, indoor firing range, secure entry into the plaza, courtrooms and supporting spaces, law library, and detention cells, fitness rooms including an indoor firing range, conference rooms and underground parking for 300 cars.
The building’s mechanical system includes 43 floor level air-handling units, 1,700 tons of chiller capacity, and 20,000 MBH of boiler capacity. Efficiency measures including a 10,000 cfm heat recovery system and a plate heat exchanger for cooling tower free cooling were incorporated. The building envelope, lighting, and mechanical systems design were optimized and received the Sacramento Municipal Utility District Board’s approval for $1.2 million dollars in rebates and financial incentives for energy efficiency design.
