California Men’s Colony

This new OSHPD 4 compliant, 50-bed mental health crisis facility at California Men’s Colony located in San Luis Obispo accommodates housing, administration, treatment, and custody services necessary to support 50 inmate patients.

The exterior perimeter orientates around 2 group yards and 8 small management yards along with 4 housing wings flanking 2 nurses’ stations, and 3 new guard towers.

The project designed to achieve LEED Silver Certification, incorporates air packaged units with gas furnace and self-contained DX refrigerant rooftop HVAC units and vacuum waste system piped overhead to a central collection vacuum. Control monitoring points were added based on the project’s measurement and verification plan with meters monitoring overall domestic water flow, natural gas, lighting, receptacle, and HVAC loads reporting to the building’s energy management and control system at monthly and yearly intervals.
