UCD Davis Chilled Water
The Chillled Water System Improvements Phase 7 (CHW&) project will construct new chilled water capacity and distribution improvements needed to serve the central campus.

CHW7 will replace the aging inefficient steam-fired chillers with more efficient electric chillers at the Central Heating and Cooling Plant (CHCP). A new thermal energy storage tank will be added to the chilled water system to reduce energy costs, increase system reserve capacity and increase system reliability.

CHW7 will improve the chilled water distribution system and improve the performance of the chilled water loop. Studies have shown a central campus chilled water system has a lower life cycle cost than stand alone systems serving individual projects. The chilled water system needs to include improvements to increase the efficiency of the system at the building level and increasing Delta T between the chilled water supply and return lines after cycling through the building fan coils. The CHW7 project continues the effort to identify and propose strategies to impact positive change on this system.
